Bluetooth - get connected!!!

Bluetooth!!! Most phones now have it, and it is a great technology, but how do you use it? How do you pair a headset to a phone, and how can you use Bluetooth to the fullest potential? Have no fear, your answers are here.

Here is a simple guide to get your phone and your headset connected.

What you need:

Bluetooth capable phone
Bluetooth headset (fully charged)
A few minutes

Make sure that your phones Bluetooth is on, and is in discoverable mode. (Not sure how to do that? Read the owners manual that came with your phone.) Make sure that your headset is turned off. Press and hold the power button on the headset for several seconds, until it starts flashing. It is now in pair mode. Some phones will automatically find the headset, some will not. If yours doesn't, simply search for new devices. It will find your headset. It will ask you for a code. The default code is usually 0000. Enter that into the phone. It will finish pairing, and then you can connect. You are all done. Enjoy being handsfree!!!

Q. I want to listen to music using my headset and my phone, how?

A. You need two things. A phone with the A2DP Bluetooth profile enabled, and Bluetooth headphones, not a headset. Most, if not all headsets, will not play music through Bluetooth.

Q. I got my phone and my headset paired. When the phone rings, I don't hear my ringtone, just a regular annoying ring.

A. Your phone does not have the A2DP profile, and that is why you are hearing a generic ringtone, and not your own.

Q. I have a Motorola headset, and a Samsung phone, will they work together?

A. Yes. Bluetooth is not brand dependent. You don't need to have a Motorola phone to use a Motorola headset. Almost all brands are compatible when it comes to phones and headsets. You may run into issues getting connected to a car, as not all brands of phones seem to work in all cars equipped with Bluetooth.

Q. What else can I pair up with using Bluetooth?

A. Well, you can pair with other Bluetooth equipped phones, cars, computers, printers, pretty much anything that has Bluetooth. Can you transfer files back and forth? Depends on your carrier, and how much they have locked down with Bluetooth. Some providers do not cripple it at all, and some cripple it heavily.

Q. Some states have made it illegal to talk on a cellphone while driving, what about using a Bluetooth or wired headset?

A. It should be 100% legal to use a headset of some sort. Remember to always be careful and make driving your #1 priority, not talking on the phone if you are behind the wheel.
